Bodog reclaims original Bodog.com domain
By PokerlifeGuide • June 11th, 2009But now, after spending the past two years in a nasty patent-related legal battle which resulted in losing its original Bodog.com domain, Calvin Ayre’s baby has offically got its name back.
The Morris Mohawk Gaming Group (exclusive licensee of the Bodog brand) announced yesterday that they had reached a settlement agreement resolving all pending patent litigation resulting in the return of the Bodog.com domain name.
“Gaining ownership of the Bodog.com domain was a moment of immense pride for me,” said Morris Mohawk Gaming Group CEO Alwyn Morris. “It felt akin to taking ownership of a piece of Bodog’s history.”
“As the exclusive licensee of the Bodog brand for online gaming in the United States, we are overjoyed to not only be a part of the return of one of the industry’s most prestigious and recognizable domains, but to also be the driving force behind the brand’s operation in that market.”
The Bodog.com domain, which was determined to be too valuable an asset to be used solely as a geo-targeted redirect, will house Bodog’s U.S.-facing business.
The return of the domain will also be beneficial for all global licensees, as regardless of a player’s location going to Bodog.com will redirect that player to the right licensee for their jurisdiction.
